If you want to forward a domain name that you have to another domain name or subdomain, the best way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain address being redirected loses all its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain it's forwarded to. By doing this, if you are using a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be forwarded to the site which you have set up, but it'll also be displayed in the web browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to direct all of the targeted traffic from different subdomains to their main Internet domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain simply because this type of a record set up for the main domain name makes it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

Setting up a CNAME record through our cloud plans is extremely simple. Our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel features a section committed to the DNS records of your domains, so you can set up a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in only a few simple steps. You will find a video tutorial inside the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature offers you a number of options - if you create a company website on our end, for example, the staff can use their emails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to create a site by using a different provider which offers online web design services, you can easily redirect a domain name hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, in case you have an online store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you are able to set up a CNAME record for the www subdomain and redirect it to the main domain name, so all your visitors will be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Managing DNS records usually appears to be a difficult task to the people with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every semi-dedicated hosting plan which we provide, is very simple to use. If you want to set up a CNAME record for any purpose, all that you need to do will be to choose the domain address or subdomain that you need, select the type of record, which will be CNAME in this case, then input the value i.e. the domain address or subdomain you are forwarding to. The procedure is very easy and you can create the record in the DNS Records section of the Control Panel. Within the hour the new record is going to be completely active and within a couple of hours it is going to propagate around the globe. If you aren't sure what you should do, we have prepared a comprehensive help article and a short video tutorial on how to go about creating a CNAME record and they are both located in that very same section of Hepsia. Naturally, you can also get in touch with us for help at any moment.
